The term “brunch” originated in England in the late 19th century and came to the USA in the 1930s. The popularity of this mid-morning meal might be at an all-time high with many of our North Shore favs serving up a special menu for this special weekend meal.  Here is just a taste of a few of their specialties and times that you can catch the menu.

Lake Bluff
The Maevery Public House:  For those in the South Shore, take the train ride to the Lake Bluff station and walk about 50 yards to the front door of this “elevated American” restaurant.  Benny’s, Tacos, Fried Chicken & Waffles just to name a few.  Sundays, 10am-3pm.

Lake Forest
The Market House:  In addition to some delish savory dishes such as Red Pepper & Egg Galettes, this true American haute includes such sweets as Strawberry Shortcake Waffle and Cinnamon Apple Pancakes to its menu. Sundays, 11am-3pm.

Disotto: The Italian version of brunch at this cozy and casual cafe has classics like cheese & charcuterie, grilled pizzas and pastas, but also includes some more brunch-y items like nutella crepes, gourmet omelettes and interesting egg sandwiches. Saturdays, 11am-2:30pm & Sundays, 10am-2:30pm.

Guildhall: A gourmet twist on some brunch classics scour the menu of this gorgeous Glencoe restaurant.  Pain Pardu, Housemade Mexican Chorizo & Hominy Hash, Chilaquiles just to name a few.  Saturdays & Sundays, 10am-2pm.
Meg’s Cafe:  A small menu of solid brunch items such as a Challah French Toast, Breakfast Paninis and Tacos, Omelets and more…all with SUPER fresh ingredients that come out in the taste.  Saturdays, 9:30a-noon.

Prairie Grass Cafe:  This contemporary American spot has a sizable brunch menu with many classics and several varieties of each.  Besides the Benedicts, Omelets, Pancakes, the menu also includes some specialty brunch items like “Potato Skins” (with eggs on top), Smoked Salmon Crepes and many options for those that want lunch.  Saturdays, 10am-2pm & Sundays 9:30am-2pm.

Convito Cafe & Market: Italy meets the All-American Brunch at this East side Wilmette mainstay.  Delish items such as a Chorizo & Egg Skillet, Crepe of the day, Brioche French Toast, in addition to fresh salads and gourmet sandwiches landmark restaurant.  Sundays, 11am-3pm.
Firefly Kitchen:  This Brooklyn-style Bistro has an extensive assortment of brunch items including Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, 4 different Benny’s to choose from, Breakfast Mac & Cheese, a Lobster Roll and many other delish options!  Fridays-Sundays, 10am-2pm.
Nick’s Neighborhood Grill:  A small and composed menu of sweet and savory include Brioche French Toast, Nick’s Scrambled Mess, Breakfast Tacos, along with more lunch items, too.  Saturdays & Sundays, 11am-2pm.

State & Main: In the heart of The Glen, this new comer to the restaurant scene is serving up twitsts to brunch favs such as Banana Bread French Toast, a gourmet Breakfast BLT, Breakfast Burrito, along with their extensive regular menu!  Mimosas and Bloodies are on special fro just $5. Saturdays & Sundays, 10am-3pm.

Hearth:  This cozy and intimate restaurant in East Evanston is a must try!  House made pastries round out much of their menu, including Breakfast Sandwiches, Dulce de Leche French Toast, Steel Cut Oats, Avocado Toast and much more!  Sundays, 9:30am-1:30pm.
Boltwood:  The mouth-watering menu at this stylish Evanston spot includes biscuits + gravy, sourdough pancakes + apples, a house made scone of the day, the boltwood burger and more!  Not to miss!  Saturdays & Sundays, 10am-2pm.
Peckish Pig:  This farm to table southern Evanston hot spot includes such beauties as a House made Bag of Donuts, The Full English (traditional, complete with blood pudding), Cheesy Grits and Pumpkin Pancakes. This is a place you may want to include a crafted cocktail with your bacon and eggs. Saturdays & Sundays, 11am-3:30pm.
Farmhouse: Smack in downtown Evanston, this farm to table does brunch right with a Farmer’s Breakfast, Veggie Hash, Farmaquilles, Brioche French Toast Sticks and more.  This is a great spot for larger groups or a private event (maybe a bridal brunch!?) with may different rooms to accommodate.  Saturdays & Sundays, 10am-3pm.
Ten Mile House:  What could be more American than BBQ and Brunch?!  This Central Street haute does brunch right with Smoked Corned Beef Hash, Morning Poutine, Hangover Fried Rice, Tostada Benedict…sandwiches, pizzas and salads and more!  Saturdays & Sundays, 10am-3:30pm.
