RAVINIA FARMERS MARKET KICKS OFF 39TH SEASON WITH NORTH SHORE’S LARGEST ORGANIC PLANT SALE!
June 28 @ 7:00 am - November 15 @ 1:00 pm
RAVINIA DISTRICT, HIGHLAND PARK, IL (JUNE 2017) – The Ravinia Farmers Market is excited to kick off its 39th farmers market season with more than 15 vendors and North Shore’s largest organic plant sale benefiting the Organic Teaching Garden program at Highland Park High School. Ravinia Farmers Markets will occur every Wednesday from June 7th to October 25th from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The organic plant sale will only occur on opening day.
A variety of conventional and organic vegetables and fruit, cheeses, baked goods and many more vendors will line Dean Avenue at Roger Williams and St. Johns Avenue at Jens Jensen Park, across from the Ravinia Metra station in the Ravinia District of Highland Park. New vendors will join long established ones and yes, Gus will be back selling crepes!
To kick off the season, Ravinia Farmers Market is hosting the largest certified organic plant sale on the North Shore, with all plants provided by Robert Boyce of Natural Environments, a certified organic farm. Guaranteed to have the best prices in town, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Organic Teaching Garden educational program that instructs more than 200 Highland Park High School AP Environmental Science students on the principles of organic gardening. Students come to the garden for a Fall tasting of the crop and prepare the soil and plant the seeds and seedlings in Spring, and every student has the opportunity to work up to four hours in the garden for extra community service credit.
Additionally, Ravinia Farmers Market is now under new management and being run by Ed Kugler of Taste Marketing and promises more product variety and selection. Kugler is a long-time Highland Park resident and market vendor who first became involved with the market in 1978 with a booth selling sprouts, and has been an organic vegetable grower at the market since 2013.
